The Call to Country Living Part 1

He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.  (Isaiah 33:16 KJV)

The work of the people of God is to prepare for the events of the future, which will soon come upon them with blinding force. In the world gigantic monopolies will be formed. Men will bind themselves together in unions that will wrap them in the folds of the enemy. A few men will combine to grasp all the means to be obtained in certain lines of business. Trades unions will be formed, and those who refuse to join these unions will be marked men.–Letter 26, 1903.  {CL 10.3}

The Lord desires you to be of good courage. He has a work for you to do in evangelistic lines, a work demanding more distinctly spiritual efforts than the work in which you have been engaged. The greatest and most important work in which we can engage is the preparation of a people to stand in the day of God, upon which we are just entering. May the Lord help you, my brother, to devote your God-given capabilities to winning souls to Christ. Rest in God, and walk humbly with Him. You will need much of the rich grace of the Saviour, and a deep, settled conviction that the work of the people of God is to prepare for the events of the future, which will soon come upon them with blinding force. {4MR 74.3}

Imminent Danger for City Dwellers

The sword is without, and the pestilence and the famine within: he that is in the field shall die with the sword; and he that is in the city, famine and pestilence shall devour him.

(Ezekiel 7:15 KJV)

Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies. (For further detailed counsel on this topic see Country Living.)  {AH 141.4}

During the Christian dispensation, the great enemy of man’s happiness has made the Sabbath of the fourth commandment an object of special attack. Satan says, “I will work at cross purposes with God. I will empower my followers to set aside God’s memorial, the seventh-day Sabbath. Thus I will show the world that the day sanctified and blessed by God has been changed. That day shall not live in the minds of the people. I will obliterate the memory of it. I will place in its stead a day that does not bear the credentials of God, a day that cannot be a sign between God and His people. I will lead those who accept this day to place upon it the sanctity that God placed upon the seventh day.  {PK 183.3}

     “Through my vicegerent, I will exalt myself. The first day will be extolled, and the Protestant world will receive this spurious sabbath as genuine. Through the nonobservance of the Sabbath that God instituted, I will bring His law into contempt. The words, ‘A sign between Me and you throughout your generations,’ I will make to serve on the side of my sabbath.  {PK 184.1}

     “Thus the world will become mine. I will be the ruler of the earth, the prince of the world. I will so control the minds under my power that God’s Sabbath shall be a special object of contempt. A sign? I will make the observance of the seventh day a sign of disloyalty to the authorities of earth. Human laws will be made so stringent that men and women will not dare to observe the seventh-day Sabbath. For fear of wanting food and clothing, they will join with the world in transgressing God’s law. The earth will be wholly under my dominion.”  {PK 184.2}

In India, China, Russia, and the cities of America, thousands of men and women are dying of starvation. The monied men, because they have the power, control the market. They purchase at low rates all they can obtain, and then sell at greatly increased prices. This means starvation to the poorer classes, and will result in a civil war. There will be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation. “And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation, even to that same time; and at that time thy people shall be delivered, everyone that shall be found written in the book. . . . Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly, and none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand.”–Ms 114, 1899. (General manuscript, untitled, typed August 13, 1899.)  {5MR 305.4}

Erelong there will be such strife and confusion in the cities, that those who wish to leave them will not be able.  {Mar 180.5}

  If in the providence of God we can secure places away from the cities, the Lord would have us do this. There are troublous times before us.  {Mar 180.8}

Remember the words of Christ in answer to the Disciples question “when and what are the signs of the end of the world”.

And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto.

(Luke 21:20-21 KJV)

Gods Wisdom in Calling for Country Living

The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure[i]. Thine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold the land that is very far off.[ii]

(Isaiah 33:14-17 KJV)

It was not God’s purpose that people should be crowded into cities, huddled together in terraces and tenements. In the beginning He placed our first parents amidst the beautiful sights and sounds He desires us to rejoice in today. The more nearly we come into harmony with God’s original plan, the more favorable will be our position to secure health of body, and mind, and soul.–The Ministry of Healing, pp. 363-365. (1905)  {CL 6.5}

Fathers and mothers who possess a piece of land and a comfortable home are kings and queens.  {AH 141.2}

Do not consider it a privation when you are called to leave the cities and move out into the country places. Here there await rich blessings for those who will grasp them.  {AH 141.3}

Again and again the Lord has instructed that our people are to take their families away from the cities, into the country, where they can raise their own provisions; for in the future the problem of buying and selling will be a very serious one. We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies. (see Country Living.)  {AH 141.4}

Country Living and the Sunday Law Crisis

(1885) The Signal for Fleeing

     It is no time now for God’s people to be fixing their affections or laying up their treasure in the world. The time is not far distant, when, like the early disciples, we shall be forced to seek a refuge in desolate and solitary places. As the siege of Jerusalem by the Roman armies was the signal for flight to the Judean Christians, so the assumption of power on the part of our nation, in the decree enforcing the papal sabbath, will be a warning to us. It will then be time to leave the large cities, preparatory to leaving the smaller ones for retired homes in secluded places among the mountains. And now, instead of seeking expensive dwellings here, we should be preparing to move to a better country, even a heavenly. Instead of spending our means in self-gratification, we should be studying to economize. — Testimonies, vol. 5, pp. 464, 465. (1885) {CL 32.1} [For further information on why the siege of Jerusalem is a type of what’s to soon happen to those who choose to remain in the cities. See Great Controversy Chap.One]

(1903) The time has come, when, as God opens the way, families should move out of the cities. The children should be taken into the country. The parents should get as suitable a place as their means will allow. Though the dwelling may be small, yet there should be land in connection with it, that may be cultivated. –Manuscript 50, 1903.  {CL 24.2}

(1897) When the power invested in kings is allied to goodness, it is because the one in responsibility is under the divine dictation. When power is allied with wickedness, it is allied to Satanic agencies, and it will work to destroy those who are the Lord’s property. The Protestant world have set up an idol sabbath in the place where God’s Sabbath should be, and they are treading in the footsteps of the Papacy. For this reason I see the necessity of the people of God moving out of the cities into retired country [places,] where they may cultivate the land and raise their own produce. Thus they may bring their children up with simple, healthful habits. I see the necessity of making haste to get all things ready for the crisis. –Letter 90, 1897.  {CL 21.1}

Notice the underlying theme: Food

Hoarded wealth will soon be worthless. When the decree shall go forth that none shall buy or sell except they have the mark of the beast, very much means will be of no avail. God calls for us now to do all in our power to send forth the warning to the world. –RH March 21, 1878.  {LDE 148.2} [Notice money will be useless!]

     The time is coming when we cannot sell at any price. The decree will soon go forth prohibiting men to buy or sell of any man save him that hath the mark of the beast. We came near having this realized in California a short time since, but this was only the threatening of the blowing of the four winds. As yet they are held by the four angels. We are not just ready. There is a work yet to be done, and then the angels will be bidden to let go, that the four winds may blow upon the earth.–5T 152 (1882).  {LDE 148.3}

     In the last great conflict in the controversy with Satan those who are loyal to God will see every earthly support cut off. Because they refuse to break His law in obedience to earthly powers they will be forbidden to buy or sell. –DA 121, 122 (1898).  {LDE 148.4}

     Satan says . . . “For fear of wanting food and clothing they will join with the world in transgressing God’s law. The earth will be wholly under my dominion.”–PK 183, 184 (c. 1914).  {LDE 149.1}

Three main basic necessities for life:

  1. Food (Water included)
  2. Shelter (Heat included)
  3. Clothing

In Closing

The divine command was: “Go forward.” They were not to wait until the way was made plain, and they could comprehend the entire plan of their deliverance. God’s cause is onward, and He will open a path before His people. To hesitate and murmur is to manifest distrust in the Holy One of Israel. God in His providence brought the Hebrews into the mountain fastnesses, with the Red Sea before them, that He might work out their deliverance and forever rid them of their enemies. He might have saved them in any other way, but He chose this method in order to test their faith and strengthen their trust in Him.  {4T 25.4}

The Hebrews were weary and terrified; yet if they had held back when Moses bade them advance, if they had refused to move nearer to the Red Sea, God would never have opened the path for them. In marching down to the very water, they showed that they had faith in the word of God as spoken by Moses. They did all that it was in their power to do, and then the Mighty One of Israel performed His part, and divided the waters to make a path for their feet.  {4T 26.4}

[i] And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time. And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there. But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat. And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again. And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

(1 Kings 19:1-8 KJV)

[ii] Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country:

(Matthew 21:33 KJV);

Then began he to speak to the people this parable; A certain man planted a vineyard, and let it forth to husbandmen, and went into a far country for a long time.

True Foundations Of Seventh Day Adventist

And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa: and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; Believe in the LORD your God, so shall ye be established; believe his prophets, so shall ye prosper.

(2 Chronicles 20:20 KJV)

And the head of Ephraim is Samaria, and the head of Samaria is Remaliah’s son. If ye will not believe, surely ye shall not be established.

(Isaiah 7:9 KJV)

God is either teaching His church, reproving their wrongs and strengthening their faith, or He is not. This work is of God, or it is not. God does nothing in partnership with Satan. My work for the past thirty years bears the stamp of God or the stamp of the enemy. There is no halfway work in the matter. The Testimonies are of the Spirit of God, or of the devil. In arraying yourself against the servants of God you are doing a work either for God or for the devil. “By their fruits ye shall know them.” What stamp does your work bear? It will pay to look critically at the result of your course.  {4T 229.2}

Men may get up scheme after scheme, and the enemy will seek to seduce souls from the truth, but all who believe that the Lord has spoken through Sister White, and has given her a message, will be safe from the many delusions that will come in these last days.–Letter 50, 1906.  {3SM 83.5}

One thing is certain: Those Seventh-day Adventists who take their stand under Satan’s banner will first give up their faith in the warnings and reproofs contained in the Testimonies of God’s Spirit.  {3SM 84.3}

 Seventh Day Adventist Foundation

Ministers should present the sure word of prophecy as the foundation of the faith of Seventh-day Adventists. The prophecies of Daniel and the Revelation should be carefully studied, and in connection with them the words, “Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” {Ev 196.2}

Whatever may be man’s intellectual advancement, let him not for a moment think that there is no need of thorough and continuous searching of the Scriptures for greater light. As a people, we are called individually to be students of prophecy. We must watch with earnestness that we may discern any ray of light which God shall present to us. We are to catch the first gleamings of truth; and through prayerful study, clearer light may be obtained, which can be brought before others.  {GW 300.1}

The Apostles Peter, James and John’s Foundation

  Prominent among the apostles who engaged in this work were Peter, James, and John, who felt confident that God had appointed them to preach Christ among their countrymen at home. Faithfully and wisely they labored, testifying of the things they had seen and heard, and appealing to “a more sure word of prophecy” (2 Peter 1:19), in an effort to persuade “the house of Israel . . . that God hath made that same Jesus, whom” the Jews “crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).  {AA 165.2}

The Apostle Paul’s Foundation

  As Paul preached Christ in Damascus, all who heard him were amazed and said, “Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests?” Paul declared that his change of faith had not been prompted by impulse or fanaticism, but had been brought about by overwhelming evidence. In his presentation of the gospel he sought to make plain the prophecies relating to the first advent of Christ. He showed conclusively that these prophecies had been literally fulfilled in Jesus of Nazareth. The foundation of his faith was the sure word of prophecy.  {AA 124.3}

The Prophet Daniels Foundation

  With faith founded on the sure word of prophecy, Daniel pleaded with the Lord for the speedy fulfillment of these promises. He pleaded for the honor of God to be preserved. In his petition he identified himself fully with those who had fallen short of the divine purpose, confessing their sins as his own.  {PK 554.3}

The Faith of Jesus

  The burden of Christ’s preaching was, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Thus the gospel message, as given by the Saviour Himself, was based on the prophecies. The “time” which He declared to be fulfilled was the period made known by the angel Gabriel to Daniel. “Seventy weeks,” said the angel, “are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most holy.” Daniel 9:24… {DA 233.1}

Warning To those Undermining the Foundation

I saw a company who stood well guarded and firm, giving no countenance to those who would unsettle the established faith of the body. God looked upon them with approbation. I was shown three steps– the first, second, and third angels’ messages. Said my accompanying angel, “Woe to him who shall move a block or stir a pin of these messages. The true understanding of these messages is of vital importance. The destiny of souls hangs upon the manner in which they are received.” I was again brought down through these messages, and saw how dearly the people of God had purchased their experience. It had been obtained through much suffering and severe conflict. God had led them along step by step, until He had placed them upon a solid, immovable platform. I saw individuals approach the platform and examine the foundation. Some with rejoicing immediately stepped upon it. Others commenced to find fault with the foundation. They wished improvements made, and then the platform would be more perfect, and the people much happier. Some stepped off the platform to examine it and declared it to be laid wrong. But I saw that nearly all stood firm upon the platform and exhorted those who had stepped off to cease their complaints; for God was the Master Builder, and they were fighting against Him. They recounted the wonderful work of God, which had led them to the firm platform, and in union raised their eyes to heaven and with a loud voice glorified God. This affected some of those who had complained and left the platform, and they with humble look again stepped upon it.  {EW 258.3}

What Foundations Are Being Undermined?

   The warning has come: Nothing is to be allowed to come in that will disturb the foundation of the faith upon which we have been building ever since the message came in 1842, 1843, and 1844. I was in this message, and ever since I have been standing before the world, true to the light that God has given us. We do not propose to take our feet off the platform on which they were placed as day by day we sought the Lord with earnest prayer, seeking for light. Do you think that I could give up the light that God has given me? It is to be as the Rock of Ages. It has been guiding me ever since it was given. Brethren and sisters, God lives and reigns and works today. His hand is on the wheel, and in his providence he is turning the wheel in accordance with his own will. Let not men fasten themselves to documents, saying what they will do, and what they will not do. Let them fasten themselves to the Lord God of heaven. Then the light of heaven will shine into the soul-temple, and we shall see the salvation of God. {RH, April 14, 1903 par. 35}

Foundation In 1842

   “In June, 1842, Mr. Miller gave his second course of lectures in the Casco street church, in Portland. I felt it a great privilege to attend these lectures, for I had fallen upon discouragements and did not feel prepared to meet my Saviour. This second course created much more excitement in the city than the first. The different denominations, with a very few exceptions, closed the doors of their churches against Mr. Miller. Many discourses from the various pulpits sought to expose the alleged fanatical errors of the lecturer. But crowds of anxious listeners attended his meetings, while many were unable to enter the house, which was literally packed.  {Life Sketches of James White and Ellen G. White 1880 148.3}

  As early as 1842 the direction given in this prophecy to “write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it,” had suggested to Charles Fitch the preparation of a prophetic chart to illustrate the visions of Daniel and the Revelation. The publication of this chart was regarded as a fulfillment of the command given by Habakkuk. No one, however, then noticed that an apparent delay in the accomplishment of the vision–a tarrying time–is presented in the same prophecy. After the disappointment, this scripture appeared very significant: “The vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. . . . The just shall live by his faith.”  {The Great Controversy 392.2}

  Their faith was greatly strengthened by the direct and forcible application of those scriptures which set forth a tarrying time. As early as 1842, the Spirit of God had moved upon Charles Fitch to devise the prophetic chart, which was generally regarded by Adventists as a fulfillment of the command given by the prophet Habakkuk, “to write the vision and make it plain upon tables.” No one, however, then saw the tarrying time, which was brought to view in the same prophecy. After the disappointment, the full meaning of this scripture became apparent. Thus speaks the prophet: “Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” [Habakkuk 2:2, 3.]  {Spirit Of Prophecy Volume 4   241.2}

Remember the warning God gave in 1903:  “ The warning has come: Nothing is to be allowed to come in that will disturb the foundation of the faith upon which we have been building ever since the message came in 1842, 1843, and 1844”.

What is the Foundation That Was Laid In 1843?

I have seen that the 1843 chart was directed by the hand of the Lord, and that it should not be altered; that the figures were as He wanted them; that His hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until His hand was removed. {EW 74.1}

The Lord showed me that the 1843 chart was directed by his hand, and that no part of it should be altered; that the figures were as he wanted them. That his hand was over and hid a mistake in some of the figures, so that none could see it, until his hand was removed.  {RH, November 1, 1850 par. 10}

Was the mistake the 2520?

The hand of the Lord was removed from the figures, and the mistake was explained. They saw that the prophetic periods reached to 1844, and that the same evidence which they had presented to show that the prophetic periods closed in 1843, proved that they would terminate in 1844. Light from the Word of God shone upon their position, and they discovered a tarrying time–“Though it [the vision] tarry, wait for it.” In their love for Christ’s immediate coming, they had overlooked the tarrying of the vision, which was calculated to manifest the true waiting ones. Again they had a point of time. Yet I saw that many of them could not rise above their severe disappointment to possess that degree of zeal and energy which had marked their faith in 1843.  {EW 236.1}

 All the messages given from 1840-1844 are to be made forcible now, for there are many people who have lost their bearings. The messages are to go to all the churches.  {21MR 437.1}

     Christ said, “Blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them” [Matthew 13:16, 17]. Blessed are the eyes which saw the things that were seen in 1843 and 1844.  {21MR 437.2}

     The message was given. And there should be no delay in repeating the message, for the signs of the times are fulfilling; the closing work must be done. A great work will be done in a short time. A message will soon be given by God’s appointment that will swell into a loud cry. Then Daniel will stand in his lot, to give his testimony.  {21MR 437.3}  (1906)

WILLIAM MILLERS 14 RULES FOR BIBLE STUDY

ELLEN WHITE SAYS:

Those who are engaged in proclaiming the third angel’s message are searching the Scriptures upon the same plan that Father Miller adopted. In the little book entitled “Views of the Prophecies and Prophetic Chronology,” Father Miller gives the following simple but intelligent and important rules for Bible study and interpretation:– {RH, November 25, 1884 par. 23}
“1. Every word must have its proper bearing on the subject presented in the Bible; 2. All Scripture is necessary, and may be understood by diligent application and study; 3. Nothing revealed in Scripture can or will be hid from those who ask in faith, not wavering; 4. To understand doctrine, bring all the scriptures together on the subject you wish to know, then let every word have its proper influence; and if you can form your theory without a contradiction, you cannot be in error; 5. Scripture must be its own expositor, since it is a rule of itself. If I depend on a teacher to expound to me, and he should guess at its meaning, or desire to have it so on account of his sectarian creed, or to be thought wise, then his guessing, desire, creed, or wisdom is my rule, and not the Bible.” {RH, November 25, 1884 par. 24}
The above is a portion of these rules; and in our study of the Bible we shall all do well to heed the principles set forth.               {RH, November 25, 1884 par.14

MILLERS RULES:

IN studying the Bible, I have found the following rules to be of great service to myself, and now give them to the public by special request. Every rule should be well studied, in connexion with the scripture references, if the Bible student would be at all benefited by them.

 RULE I
Every word must have its proper bearing on the subject presented in the Bible.
PROOF
Matt.v.18.

RULE II
All scripture is necessary, and may be understood by a diligent application and study.
PROOF
2 Tim.iii.15,16,17.

RULE III
Nothing revealed in the scripture can or will be hid from those who ask in faith, not wavering.
PROOF
eut.xxix.29. Matt.x.26,27. 1Cor.ii.10. Phil.iii.15. Isa.xiv.11. Matt.xxi.22. John xiv.13,14. xv.7. James i.5,6. 1John v.13,14,15.

RULE IV
To understand doctrine, bring all the scriptures together on the subject you wish to know; then let every word have its proper influence, and if you can form your theory without a contradiction, you cannot be in an error.
PROOF
Isa.xxviii.7-29. xxxv.8. Prov.xix.27. Luke xxiv.27,44,45. Rom.xvi.26. James v.19. 2Pet.i.19,29.

RULE V
Scripture must be its own expositor since it is a rule of itself. If I depend on a teacher to expound it to me, and he should guess at its meaning, or desire to have it so on account of his sectarian creed, or to be thought wise, then his guessing, desire, creed or wisdom is my rule, not the Bible.
PROOFS

God has revealed things to come, by visions, in figures and parables, and in this way the same things are oftentime revealed again and again, by different visions, or in different figures, and parables. If you wish to understand them, you must combine them all in one.
PROOFS
Ps.lxxxix.19. Hos.xii.10. Hab.ii.2. Acts ii.17. 1Cor.x.6. Heb.ix.9,24. Ps.lxxviii.2. Matt.xiii.13,34. Gen.xli.1-32. Dan.ii. vii. and viii. Acts x.9-16. RULE VII.
Visions are always mentioned as such
PROOFS
2Cor.xii.1

RULE VIII
Figures always have a figurative meaning, and are used much in prophecy, to represent future things, times and events; such as mountains, meaning governments; beasts, meaning kingdoms. Waters, meaning people. Lamp, meaning Word of God. Day, meaning year.
PROOFS
Dan.ii.35,44. vii.8,17. Rev.xvii.1,15. Ps.cxix.105. Ezek.iv.6.

RULE IX
Parables are used as comparisons to illustrate subjects, and must be explained in the same way as figures by the subject and Bible. Mark iv.13. See explanation of the ten virgins, Miller’s Lectures, No.xvi.

RULE X
Figures sometimes have two or more different significations, as day is used in a figurative sense to represent three different periods of time.
PROOFS
Ecc.vii.14. 1. Indefinite. 2. Definite, a day for a year. 3. Day for a thousand years
If you put on the right construction it will harmonize with the Bible and make good sense, otherwise it will not.
PROOFS
Ezek.iv.6. 2Pet.iii.8.

RULE XI
How to know when a word is used figuratively. If it makes good sense as it stands, and does no violence to the simple laws of nature, then it must be understood literally, if not, figuratively.
PROOFS
Rev.xii.1,2. xvii.3-7.

RULE XII
To learn the true meaning of figures, trace your figurative word through your Bible, and where you find it explained, put it on your figure, and if it makes good sense you need look no further, if not, look again.

RULE XIII
To know whether we have the true historical event for the fulfilment of a prophecy. If you find every word of the prophecy (after the figures are understood) is literally fulfilled, then you may know that your history is the true event. But if one word lacks a fulfilment, then you must look for another event, or wait its future development. For God takes care that history and prophecy doth agree, so that the true believing children of God may never be ashamed.
PROOFS
Ps.xxii.5. Isa.xlv.17,18,19. 1Pet.ii.6. Rev.xvii.17. Acts iii.18.

RULE XIV
The most important rule of all is, that you must have faith. It must be a faith that requires a sacrifice, and, if tried, would give up the dearest object on earth, the world and all its desires, character, living, occupation, friends, home, comforts, and worldly honors. If any of these should hinder our believing any part of God’s word, it would show our faith to be vain. Nor can we ever believe so long as one of these motives lies lurking in our hearts. We must believe that God will never forfeit his word. And we can have confidence that he that takes notice of the sparrow, and numbers the hairs of our head, will guard the translation of his own word, and throw a barrier around it, and prevent those who sincerely trust in God, and put implicit confidence in his word, from erring far from the truth, though they may not understand Hebrew or Greek.
These are some of the most important rules which I find the word of God warrants me to adopt and follow, in order for system and regularity. And if I am not greatly deceived, in so doing, I have found the Bible, as a whole, one of the most simple, plain, and intelligible books ever written, containing proof in itself of its divine origin, and full of all knowledge that our hearts could wish to know or enjoy. I have found it a treasure which the world cannot purchase. It gives a calm peace in believing, and a firm hope in the future. It sustains the mind in adversity, and teaches us to be humble in prosperity. It prepares us to love and do good to others, and to realize the value of the soul. It makes us bold and valiant for the truth, and nerves the arm to oppose error. It gives us a powerful weapon to break down Infidelity, and makes known the only antidote for sin. It instructs us how death will be conquered, and how the bonds of the tomb must be broken. It tells us of future events, and shows the preparation necessary to meet them. It gives us an opportunity to hold conversation with the King of kings, and reveals the best code of laws ever enacted.

The Daily and Christ Sanctuary Ministry

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:) (Mat 24:15).

The abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet.
Daniel 8:11,13
Daniel 9:26,27

Daniel 11:31
Daniel 12:11,12

In reviewing our past history, having traveled over every step of advance to our present standing, I can say, Praise God! As I see what God has wrought, I am filled with astonishment, and with confidence in Christ as leader. We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history. {CET 204.1}
Then I saw in relation to the “daily” (Daniel 8:12) that the word “sacrifice” was supplied by man’swisdom, and does not belong to the text, and that the Lord gave the correct view of it to those who gave the judgment hour cry. When union existed, before 1844, nearly all were united on the correct view of the “daily”;but in the confusion since 1844, other views have been embraced, and darkness and confusion have followed. Time has not been a test since 1844, and it will never again be a test. {EW74.2}

Two points to consider in arriving to the correct understanding:

1.The word sacrifice does not belong to the text
2.God gave the correct understanding to the Millerite pioneers

Charles Fitch
And from the time the daily [pagan sacrifice in the Roman kingdom] shall be taken away, [which ocurred in the year 508,] and the [papal] abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days, [i. e., years,] to the end of that abominable power, 1798, which commenced 538 and continued 1260 years, to 1798, when the pope was carried captive. “Blessed is he that waiteth and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.” What 1335 days? The remainder of the 2300, (as it seems to me,) from 508, when the daily sacrifice was removed, which 1335 years from that period, will terminate, with the 2300 from the going forth of the decree to build Jerusalem, [457 before Christ] in 1843…{1841 CF, LJL 42.1}

Joseph Bates
In the 11th verse he says, “the daily was taken away, (that is, Paganism) and the place of his sanctuary cast down.” How plain it is that this wicked sanctuary (where idols and devils were worshipped) was a building, cast down. How could they cast down the earth to the earth? (12th v.) and it (this same Popery) cast down the truth to the ground, so the ground was not destroyed; clear proof it was not the sanctuary. Well, but we don’t believe that God will ever cleanse the wicked sanctuary of Paganism.{1846 JB, BP1 31.2}

Apollos Hale
On this supposition, also, the question of the vision might be thus paraphrased-“How long the vision”which gives Paganism and Popery “to tread both the” church and her inheritance “under foot?” Or to give a still more specific construction,-as the question, considered in relation to the previous statements of the angel, with the answer, and subsequent communications, seem to indicate that it was intended to be understood,-it might be thus paraphrased-1. How long the vision which gives both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 2. How long shall the Pagan abomination tread them under foot? and 3. How long shall Popery tread them under foot? The answer to each part is given in the vision and the subsequent prophecy. 1. The sanctuary shall be cleansed at the time appointed. 2. “He-‘the littlehorn’-(Rome while a unit,) shall take away the daily”-Paganism (viii. 11, 12.) 3. “They”-the conquerors of the Roman empire-“shall take away the daily, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.” (xi. 31.) “And from the time that the daily shall be taken away and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be 1290 days. Blessed is he that waiteth and cometh to the 1335 days. But go thou thy way till the end be, for thou shalt rest and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.”{1843 ApH, TSAM 70.5}

Josiah Litch
“By him the daily;” the word sacrifice not being in the original. This term is of frequent occurrence in the book of Daniel, and it will be necessary to ascertain its true meaning. What then did the anti-christian or Papal abomination remove to make way for itself? What was it that let or hindered until he was taken out of the way? I answer, Paganism. For, although the empire was nominally Christian most of the time from the days of Constantine, yet Paganism continued to maintain itself in Rome, and Pagan sacrifices were offered there until the conversion of the Ostrogoths to Christianity, about A. D. 508, since which time we have no account of any public Pagan sacrifices being offered in the city of Rome. “The place of Paganism’s sanctuary” was then cast down, and in its place a new system of idolatry was set up, viz., the worship of saints and images. So that these Pagan conquerors, when they embraced the Christian religion, only exchanged one system of idolatry for another. But by the fall of Paganism, the way began to open for the establishment of the Papal pretensions. {1841 JoL, APEC 81.2}

James White
The daily sacrifice and the transgression of desolation represent Rome in its pagan and papal forms. Leaving out the supplied words, the text would read, “The daily, and the transgression of desolation.”These are two desolating powers; first, paganism, then, papacy. Of these, Paul, in 2 Thess.2:3-8, says:”Let no man deceive you by any means; for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshiped; so that he, as God, sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Remember ye not that when I was yet with you I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work; only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming.” That which withheld the manifestation of the papacy in Paul’s day was paganism. These are the two powers which have desolated the people of God, of which the angel speaks in the vision of Dan.8. {ND JW, BIAD 127.1}

Steven Haskell
But Satan could not see his power overthrown without making a desperate struggle, and by stealth he
insinuated his principles into the new church. Wrangling, disputes, theological controversies drove out the spirit of life. Self exaltation put men in power; the equal rights of all fell before the rising power of a hierarchy. The principles of trusts and monopolies, of unions and leagues, which had always characterized pagan society, twined its tendrils about the new organization of Christians, and choked its life.Paganism the “daily” of Dan. 8:12 was  taken away, it is true. Rome became nominally a Christian empire. Her emperor professed the name of Christ, and carried before his army the banner of the cross. Decrees were issued causing men to worship according to the dictates of Rome. Then it was that man the emperor and the empire attempted to exalt themselves above the God of heaven. The principles of Lucifer himself had crowded out the truth of Christ, and, as was shown to Daniel, the truth was cast down to the ground. {1901 SNH, SDP 112.1}

William Miller
From a farther study of the Scriptures, I concluded that the seven times of Gentile supremacy must commence when the Jews ceased to be an independent nation at the captivity of Manasseh, which the best chronologers assigned to B. C. 677; that the 2300 days commenced with the seventy weeks, which the best chronologers dated from B. C. 457; and that the 1335 days commencing with the taking away of the daily, and the setting up of the abomination that maketh desolate, Dan.xii.11, were to be dated from the setting up of the Papal supremacy, after the taking away of Pagan abominations, and which,according to the best historians I could consult, should be dated from about A. D. 508. Reckoning all these prophetic periods from the several dates assigned by the best chronologers for the events from which they should evidently be reckoned, they all would terminate together, about A. D. 1843. I was thus brought, in 1818, at the close of my two years study of the Scriptures…{1845 WiM, WMAD 11.2}

A side note on the commencements:God sent His angel to move upon the heart of a farmer who had not believed the Bible, to lead him to search the prophecies. Angels of God repeatedly visited that chosen one, to guide his mind and open to his understanding prophecies which had ever been dark to God’s people. The commencement of the chain of truth was given to him, and he was led on to search for link after link, until he looked with
wonder and admiration upon the Word of God. He saw there a perfect chain of truth.{EW 229.1}

The new view of the“daily”was condemned by Ellen White

MR No. 1425
Errors and Dangers of Prescott and Daniells; The Cities to Be Worked (A.G. Daniells was elected president of the General Conference in 1901. This suggests that this document was written in 1910, a time when Mrs. White was very concerned about Daniells’ neglect of the cities and his involvement in the controversy over the “Daily.”)

At this stage of our experience we are not to have our minds drawn away from the special light given[us] to consider at the important gathering of our conference. And there was Brother Daniells, whose mind the enemy was working; and your mind and Elder Prescott’s mind were being worked by the angels that were expelled from heaven. Satan’s work was to divert your minds that jots and tittles should be brought in which the Lord did not inspire you to bring in. They were not essential. But this meant much to the cause of truth. And the ideas of your minds, if you could be drawn away to jots or tittles, is a work of Satan’s devising. To correct little things in the books written, you suppose would be doing a great work. But I am charged, Silence is eloquence.
{20MR 17.1}
And I was shown from the first that the Lord had given neither Elders Daniells nor Prescott the burden of
this work. Should Satan’s wiles be brought in, should this “Daily” be such a great matter as to be brought in
to confuse minds and hinder the advancement of the work at this important period of time? It should not, whatever may be. This subject should not be introduced, for the spirit that would be brought in would be forbidding, and Lucifer is watching every movement. Satanic agencies would commence his work and there would be confusion brought into our ranks. You have no call to hunt up the difference of opinion that is not a testing question; but your silence is eloquence. I have the matter all plainly before me. If the devil could involve any one of our own people on these subjects, as he has proposed to do, Satan’s cause would triumph. Now the work without delay is to be taken up and not a[difference] of opinion expressed. {20MR 18.1} Satan would inspire those men who have gone out from us to unite with evil angels and retard our work on unimportant questions, and what rejoicing [there] would be in the camp of the enemy. Press together, press together. Let every difference be buried. Our work now is to devote all our physical and brain nerve power to put these differences out of the way, and all harmonize. If Satan could with his great unsanctified wisdom be permitted to get the least hold, [he would rejoice]. {20MR 18.2}
Now, when I saw how you were working, my mind took in the whole situation and the results if you should go forward and give the parties that have left us the least chance to bring confusion into our ranks. Your lack of wisdom would be just what Satan would have it. Your loud proclamation was not under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. I was instructed to say to you that your picking flaws in the writings of men that have been led of God is not inspired of God. And if this is the wisdom that Elder Daniells would give to the people, by no means give him an official position, for he cannot reason from cause to effect. Your silence on this subject is your wisdom. Now, everything like picking flaws in the publications of men who are not alive is not the work God has given any of you to do. For if these men Elders Daniells and Prescott had followed the directions given in working the cities, there would have been many, very many, convinced of the truth and converted, able men that [now] are in positions
where they never will be reached. {20MR 18.3}

The new view is being taught to day:

“The“daily.”The Hebrew word tamid(“continual,”“perpetual,”or“daily”) appears 103 times in the old testament. It is frequently used in connection with the“daily”service in the sanctuary.This text shows that Christ’s daily ministry in the heavenly sanctuary is coming underattack by the little horn. Pg. 76

Summary: the vision of the ram(Media-Persia) and the goat(Greece) form the backdrop to the rise of the little horn power (pagan and papal Rome). The focus, however, is on the religious activities of the little horn.By substituting the confessional and the Mass for Christ’s ministry in heaven, the little horn tookaway the daily and cast down or defiled the place of His sanctuary.Pg. 78

This is error!

Our church believed and taught that the“daily” in the book of Daniel, refered to paganism, a satanic
power! Today our fellow brethren are being taught that the“daily”represents Christ sanctuary ministry in heaven!
All this is based on the“theologian”in his study of the“Hebrew”. What a perversion of the truth that Sister White says the pioneers were correct on.

The“theologian”and his study of the Greek and Hebrew will destroy every foundational truth that God has given us as an inheritance if we sit and say nothing. Reject this foolish reasoning and be a protestant by protesting!
These men (and women) who are coming out of the educational institutions that were created to prepare young men and women to give the three angels messages have been compromised and are now teaching our people how to dismantle the foundations.

The rebuke of God rest upon this people!

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink: Which justify the wicked for reward, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him! (Isa 5:20-23)

Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say
of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no
understanding? (Isa 29:16)
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject
thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget
thy children.(Hos 4:6)

The Final Contest is Over Worship

The Contest over Worship

The mark of the beast and the seal of God is the most important topic for us to understand today, for it’s fulfilment is just over the horizon. In this study we will see that this mark of the beast and the seal of God is but the final contest over worship! make no mistake about it friends; all mankind will eventuly fall into one of these two categories.

In a special sense Seventh-day Adventists have been set in the world as watchmen and light bearers. To them has been entrusted the last warning for a perishing world. On them is shining wonderful light from the word of God. They have been given a work of the most solemn import–the proclamation of the first, second, and third angels’ messages. There is no other work of so great importance. They are to allow nothing else to absorb their attention.  {9T 19.1}

The most solemn truths ever entrusted to mortals have been given us to proclaim to the world. The proclamation of these truths is to be our work. The world is to be warned, and God’s people are to be true to the trust committed to them. They are not to engage in speculation… {9T 19.2}

…So far as his opportunities extend, everyone who has received the light of truth is under the same responsibility as was the prophet of Israel to whom came the word: “Son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore, thou shalt hear the word at My mouth, and warn them from Me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.” Ezekiel 33:7-9.  {9T 19.4}

Are we to wait until the fulfillment of the prophecies of the end before we say anything concerning them? Of what value will our words be then? Shall we wait until God’s judgments fall upon the transgressor before we tell him how to avoid them? Where is our faith in the word of God? Must we see things foretold come to pass before we will believe what He has said? In clear, distinct rays light has come to us, showing us that the great day of the Lord is near at hand, “even at the doors.” Let us read and understand before it is too late.  {9T 20.1}

The Contest over Worship Begins

And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon. And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live. And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.(Rev 13:11-17)

 The introduction of this beast with lamblike horns, John identifies coming upon the scene after the first beast is lead into captivity by receiving a wound by the sword; which was shown to be the year 1798 when the Pope was taken prisoner by the army of France.

What nation came upon the scene around 1798 that possessed Christian features? If your American, you should that we were recognized as an independent nation by none other than France.

The forty and two months are the same as the “time and times and the dividing of time,” three years and a half, or 1260 days, of Daniel 7 –  –  the time during which the papal power was to oppress God’s people. This period, as stated in preceding chapters, began with the supremacy of the papacy, A.D. 538, and terminated in 1798. At that time the pope was made captive by the French army, the papal power received its deadly wound, and the prediction was fulfilled, “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity.”  {GC 439.2}

At this point another symbol is introduced. Says the prophet: “I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb.” Verse 11. Both the appearance of this beast and the manner of its rise indicate that the nation which it represents is unlike those presented under the preceding symbols. The great kingdoms that have ruled the world were presented to the prophet Daniel as beasts of prey, rising when “the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea.” Daniel 7:2. In Revelation 17 an angel explained that waters represent “peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” Revelation 17:15. Winds are a symbol of strife. The four winds of heaven striving upon the great sea represent the terrible scenes of conquest and revolution by which kingdoms have attained to power.  {GC 439.3}

But the beast with lamblike horns was seen “coming up out of the earth.” Instead of overthrowing other powers to establish itself, the nation thus represented must arise in territory previously unoccupied and grow up gradually and peacefully. It could not, then, arise among the crowded and struggling nationalities of the Old World–that turbulent sea of “peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.” It must be sought in the Western Continent.  {GC 440.1}

What nation of the New World was in 1798 rising into power, giving promise of strength and greatness, and attracting the attention of the world? The application of the symbol admits of no question. One nation, and only one, meets the specifications of this prophecy; it points unmistakably to the United States of America…{GC 440.2}

America is represented as the beast with lamblike horns rising up out the earth. The activity of this nation is the focus of our study.

And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.(Rev 13:11)

And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.(Rev 13:12)

And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.(Rev 13:15)

Notice the determined effort by the beast with lamblike horns as he speaks as a dragon! He is adamant about your worshiping the first beast and the image made to this first beast.

Let’s draw up a contrast between two powers who we’ll call the:

Lamb of God (Revelation 14:7-12)

lamblike beast (Revelation 13:11-171.

1. Rev. 14:7 = Worship the Creator                                            1. Rev. 13:12,15 = No! worship the 1st beast and his image

2. Rev. 14:9 = Wrath of God on disobedient                            2. Rev. 13:15 = disobedience will lead to death!

3. Rev. 14:12 = Keep the law of God/faith.                              3. Rev.13:14 = uses deception and false miracles.

4. Isa. 33:14-17 = God will provide.                                        4. Rev.13:17 = No mark. No buy or sell.

Now that we are beginning the see the issue over who you will worship is a very serious issue. Let us look at a few precious promises for those who are  tried and tested and found faithful through Gods enabling Power.

And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God. And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. (Rev. 15:2,3)

The term “stand on the sea of glass”. Where is it?

And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.(Rev 4:2-6)

The “sea of glass” is before the heavenly Fathers throne!

 Let’s look at another precious promise to those who are “purified, made white and tried”.

 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.(Rev 20:4-6)

 The promise is sure! Will you reach out with the hand of faith and lay hold of the promises to obedient and faithful?

I would be negligent if I failed to put before you the consequences for compromising your loyalty to God.

 Who will go along or give in to the forcing of the laws and traditions of men over the law of God?

Listen to this:

The time is not far distant when the test will come to every soul. The observance of the false sabbath will be urged upon us. The contest will be between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. Those who have yielded step by step to worldly demands and conformed to worldly customs will then yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. At that time the gold will be separated from the dross. True godliness will be clearly distinguished from the appearance and tinsel of it. Many a star that we have admired for its brilliance will then go out in darkness. Those who have assumed the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christ’s righteousness, will then appear in the shame of their own nakedness.{PK 188.1}

 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. (Mat 15:9)

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. If any man have an ear, let him hear. (Rev 13:8-9)

And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.(Rev 16:2)

And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.(Rev 19:20)

In closing, we have an abundance of resources at our request to aid us in this final showdown between truth and error, darkness and light, good and evil. If we commit ourselves to God and His cause the promise is sure “lo I am with you”. Take some time and meditate on the subject. Settle in your mind today that you will go yield your souls salvation and receive the mark of the beast. We cannot wait until the final test comes without preparing for it and pass the test. Remember character is only revealed in a crisis, it cannot, I repeat it cannot be developed in the crisis!

He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.(Rev 2:11)

And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing. Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.(Lk 12:42-44)

I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: That thou mayest love the LORD thy God, and that thou mayest obey his voice, and that thou mayest cleave unto him: for he is thy life, and the length of thy days: that thou mayest dwell in the land which the LORD sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them. Importance of a Personal Relationship with God

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.(John 17:3)

Let’s take a journey through the scriptures to look at this most fascinating and perhaps one of the most least understood text in the word of God.

Benefits

1 John 2:13,14= Knowing the heavenly Father and His Son will give us a victorious experience in life.

1 Cor. 8:3= Being known of God will help us encourage others.

John 10:1-5,7-15= Shows us that there is no entrance into the kingdom without this relationship

Heb. 3:10= Knowing God and His ways will purify our corrupt hearts.

Danger of not knowing

John 16:3= Shows us that a persecuting spirit will come upon all who have no intimate relationship with God.

1 Jn. 3:6= A personal relationship with God will enable us to cease from the practice sin.

Hosea 5:4=Unfaithfulness is a result of not having this saving relationship.

Jn. 8:54,55 = =Professing to know God and not obeying the word is equivalent to lying.

Jn. 7:25-32= Not knowing God will create confusion and a persecuting spirit in us.

Titus 1:16 = Professing while not conforming is abomination to God and will cause you to be reprobate

You see friends, if neglect the present opportunity to come into close relationship with our Lord we imperceptibly are aligning ourselves to join the ranks of the enemy! The most fearful part is that all the while we’ll think we are serving the Lord God.

New Covenant

Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:8-13 = The fulfillment of the new covenant spoken of in these verses show that in addition to placing the supremacy of law of God in our very characters, the restoration of  relation between the Creator and His creation is to accomplish.

Revelation 18:1-3 has its fulfillment at this same time period and is explained by the prophet Habakkuk 2:14.

How to Receive

    Rev. 3:20= By faith we must recognize He wants a relationship with you.

Matt. 7:7,8=Just asking will begin this process.

Proverbs 8:17= Developing a saving relationship requires you to make persevering effort to seek to do so. Remember James 2:26.

Jer. 29:12-14=This verse describes a work that many fail to take hold of !  Personal heartfelt prayer time? Where is it to found among us?

John 14:21= Making a determined choice and effort to obey all the commandments of the Lord will cause God to manifest Himself to us.

In Closing

Matt. 25:12=Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

                                                             (Mat 25:1-12)

This parable is of vital interest. It describes the five wise and five foolish virgins. The five wise virgins who entered the marriage recognized the call and prepared themselves to enter the marriage banquet while the five foolish virgins spurned and treated the invitation lightly.

Just imagine how much time the bridegroom had given them to make ready for this once in a lifetime opportunity  to be His special guess. They just didn’t know Him. They didn’t know that He was a Prince (Isa.9:6; Dan.8:11,25,11:22; Acts 3:15; Rev.1:15). They didn’t know that underneath His robe and on His “thigh” He had “a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS”.

It will be soon to be too late to know Him. To late my friends. 2 Cor. 6:2 says “now [is] the day of salvation”.

Luke 13:24-28= This shows us that we cannot trust our fillings. Jerimiah 17:9 and Isaiah 1:5,6; 64:6,7. Many have today cast off the law of God. Even the profess people of God often find themselves compromising that sacred holy law.

 This lesson teaches us that a superficial or artificial Christian experience will place us outside the kingdom of heaven. Much prophetic significance in these passages but I digress.

Matt.7:21-23= Let us recognize from this lesson the no amount of works can permit us to enter into heaven while we are committing sin. If we claim to know God and do not keep his law  we are lying to ourselves and others.(1 john 2:3,4).

 A personal relationship with our creator is what we want, need and must have if our lives are to become something of worth.

Christian Standards

Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.
(Isa 62:10)

Christian standards are needed now more than ever among the people of God. Laodicea problem is the lowering of the standards she once possessed. We’ve been told that “When we aim at a low standard, we shall reach only a low standard.”

Standards were given to protect us from conformity to the corruptions that are in the world. The more we conform to the world, the less prominent christian standards become in our lives.

Our habits of eating, dressing, recreation and even worship should have certain boundaries established to protect us from mixing the holy with the unholy.
