And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.(John 17:3)
Let’s take a journey through the scriptures to look at this most fascinating and perhaps one of the most least understood text in the word of God.
1 John 2:13,14= Knowing the heavenly Father and His Son will give us a victorious experience in life.
1 Cor. 8:3= Being known of God will help us encourage others.
John 10:1-5,7-15= Shows us that there is no entrance into the kingdom without this relationship
Heb. 3:10= Knowing God and His ways will purify our corrupt hearts.
Danger of not knowing
John 16:3= Shows us that a persecuting spirit will come upon all who have no intimate relationship with God.
1 Jn. 3:6= A personal relationship with God will enable us to cease from the practice sin.
Hosea 5:4=Unfaithfulness is a result of not having this saving relationship.
Jn. 8:54,55 = =Professing to know God and not obeying the word is equivalent to lying.
Jn. 7:25-32= Not knowing God will create confusion and a persecuting spirit in us.
Titus 1:16 = Professing while not conforming is abomination to God and will cause you to be reprobate
You see friends, if neglect the present opportunity to come into close relationship with our Lord we imperceptibly are aligning ourselves to join the ranks of the enemy! The most fearful part is that all the while we’ll think we are serving the Lord God.
Jer. 31:31-34; Heb. 8:8-13 = The fulfillment of the new covenant spoken of in these verses show that in addition to placing the supremacy of law of God in our very characters, the restoration of relation between the Creator and His creation is to accomplish.
Revelation 18:1-3 has its fulfillment at this same time period and is explained by the prophet Habakkuk 2:14.
How to Receive
Rev. 3:20= By faith we must recognize He wants a relationship with you.
Matt. 7:7,8=Just asking will begin this process.
Proverbs 8:17= Developing a saving relationship requires you to make persevering effort to seek to do so. Remember James 2:26.
Jer. 29:12-14=This verse describes a work that many fail to take hold of ! Personal heartfelt prayer time? Where is it to found among us?
John 14:21= Making a determined choice and effort to obey all the commandments of the Lord will cause God to manifest Himself to us.
Matt. 25:12=Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom. And five of them were wise, and five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him. Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves. And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
This parable is of vital interest. It describes the five wise and five foolish virgins. The five wise virgins who entered the marriage recognized the call and prepared themselves to enter the marriage banquet while the five foolish virgins spurned and treated the invitation lightly.
Just imagine how much time the bridegroom had given them to make ready for this once in a lifetime opportunity to be His special guess. They just didn’t know Him. They didn’t know that He was a Prince (Isa.9:6; Dan.8:11,25,11:22; Acts 3:15; Rev.1:15). They didn’t know that underneath His robe and on His “thigh” He had “a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS”.
It will be soon to be too late to know Him. To late my friends. 2 Cor. 6:2 says “now [is] the day of salvation”.
Luke 13:24-28= This shows us that we cannot trust our fillings. Jerimiah 17:9 and Isaiah 1:5,6; 64:6,7. Many have today cast off the law of God. Even the profess people of God often find themselves compromising that sacred holy law.
This lesson teaches us that a superficial or artificial Christian experience will place us outside the kingdom of heaven. Much prophetic significance in these passages but I digress.
Matt.7:21-23= Let us recognize from this lesson the no amount of works can permit us to enter into heaven while we are committing sin. If we claim to know God and do not keep his law we are lying to ourselves and others.(1 john 2:3,4).
A personal relationship with our creator is what we want, need and must have if our lives are to become something of worth.
